WHAT IS PGP?

PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) is a cryptographic product that enables people to securely exchange email messages with both privacy and strong authentication.

This technology allows you to have users send you an email that is first encrypted with a public RSA encryption key on the server. When you receive this encrypted email you will need to use your private RSA encryption key on your local system to unencrypt the email to read the contents. This makes the email secure and can only be read by the owner of the private RSA key. This is an excellent method to use for secure transactions with credit card authorization information.

SETTING UP YOUR PGP KEY ON YOUR SERVER

Our commerce account holders will see a PGP icon in their account control panels.

This option will allow you to set up your PGP key on the server. This allows you to use PGP in your scripts or with our PGPMail script.You must first have PGP installed on your local PC, and create a PGP key pair before uploading the key to the server.

To create your PGP key pair you will need to install PGP software on your local PC and configure your email client with the appropriate PGP plugin. Please refer to the instructions with your email client for configuring the client to use PGP technology.

PGP software can be downloaded as freeware from MIT University

Once you have your PGP key pair created, upload your public key to your server using the PGP icon in your account control panel.

Please contact support@zaphost.com to request assistance with making your PGP key trusted and setting the proper permissions in your account for using your PGP public key.

USING PGPMAIL

PGPMail is simply the Formmail script, except that it encrypts the email via PGP before it is sent to the client. Note that you must upload your PGP key before you can use this script.

For instructions on setting up the PGPMail script, please refer to the directions outlined in your account control panel under the PGPMail icon.

Please note, this option is available for our advanced and webmaster hosting accounts only.

SECURE SOCKET LAYER - SSL

Normally, any text (such as your credit card number) sent from your browser to the web server is sent as plain text. This means that a hacker could potentially intercept (however unlikely) the information sent from your browser and read it. Therefore, by using the secure server, the information is encrypted before it is sent from your browser. It would be practically impossible for anyone to decrypt it without knowing the key.

The following example uses yourdomain as the name of your domain and any page as the name of the order form or the page you wish to be secure.

Use the following url to call your pages via the secure server.

https://secureservername/yourdomain/anypage.html

Please contact support@zaphost.com to find out what secure server your account is on.

The above page would be accessed from the normal web server as:

http://example.com/anypage.html

Go to www.yourdomain.com/menu and click on Formmail and follow the instructions for installing your formmail.

If you are calling the formmail through the secure server, your action line and other code will look like the following:

<FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="https://secure.zaphost.com/cgi-sys/formmail.pl">
<input type=hidden name="recipient" value="emailaccount@yourdomain.com">
<input type=hidden name="subject" value="Order">
<input type=hidden name="return_link_url" value="https://secure.zaphost.com/yourdomain/yourpage">
<input type=hidden name="return_link_title" value="Back to Your Page">

The last two lines allow a link back to your main page - thus they get a report of what they ordered and a link.

It's important that you call your order page through a secure URL (HTTPS) in order for it to work properly

Example:

https://secure.zaphost.com/yourdomain/yourorderform.htm (note: your domain does not include the extension)

Remember if you need your secure server name or need your secure cgi-bin enabled please email Technical Support
and we will provide you with this information.
