Virtual Nameservers:
Name servers translate domain names into numeric IP addresses that a computer can interpret. An IP address is a series of 4 numbers that looks something like this: 123.456.345.234. Name servers are usually identified in whois databases. For example, if you were to search a whois database for zaphost.com, you’d find our name servers listed. They’ll be identified as ns.zaphost.com and ns2.zaphost.com.

Some resellers feel it is important to have their own name servers, also know as virtual nameservers (VNS), listed in the whois in order to keep Zap Host anonymous to their customers. So if someone were to search a whois database on their domain name, for example joesdomain.com, they would find the name servers listed as ns.joesdomain.com and ns2.joesdomain.com instead of ours.

Setting Up Your Virtual Name Servers
To set up your virtual name servers, go to your control panel and click on the Add Features icon. Then choose the Virtual Nameserver option and the billing frequency you want.

Once you have added the package an incon will appear in your control panel's main screen. Click this icon to start the installation process. The button you see on the next screen says "install." What it actually does is "create" name server info (ns.yourdomain.com / ns2.yourdomain.com) and the associated IP addresses. This takes up to an hour to generate. Come back to your control panel after an hour and click on Virtual Name Server icon again and you will see the names of your virtual name servers and their IP addresses. You will need this information for the next step in this process.

Registering Your Virtual Name Servers
IMPORTANT! You must register your name servers with your domain registration company! Otherwise your virtual name servers will not be listed in whois directories and you will not be able to point your domains to your VNS.

You'll need to register your VNS through the domain registration company that you used to register your master domain. Every domain registration site is different, so you'll need to follow their directions or contact them.

Using Your Virtual Name Servers
Now you need to modify the DNS record on our server to indicate your VNS and repoint the domain name to your VNS.

1) First, click on the "Virtual Name Server" icon on your control panel. If you don't already see the domain you want to point to your VNS listed in the section below the text "Domains On Your Name Servers", click on the "Setup Domain" button and choose the domain name from the pull down menu.

2) Go to the site where the domain name was registered and repoint the domain name to your virtual name servers.

For Resellers with VNS:
For resold accounts whose domain names were registered through One World Hosting ONLY, you can use this site for assistance with repointing the domain name: http://transfermydomainname.com. Otherwise, it is your responsibility to handle the repointing.
